The festival of colour, Holi is one of the most cheerful festivals in India. Celebrated by applying colours, this vibrant festival can also take a toll on your skin and hair. The exposure of harmful colours can lead to skin and hair problems. Along with all the Holi party fun, it’s also important to take care of your skin before and after the celebration. So, before you head out for all the Holi 2019 festivities, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Before Holi Skincare:

– Apply oil to your face and the exposed part of the skin. You can go for coconut oil or almond oil, which will help to protect your skin from colours.

– Don’t forget to apply a sunscreen to your face and the exposed skin, it will act as a barrier and protect your skin from damage.

– To protect your nails, apply two coats of base coat or any nail polish. The polish will help to act as a barrier and won’t discolour your nails.

– To protect your eyes, wear a pair of sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and that’s why you must guard it against the colours.

How to remove Holi colours from skin and hair:

Post Holi Skincare:

– It’s best to remove colours when its wet, as it is difficult to remove it after it gets dry. So as soon as you reach home, take a shower.

– For your face, you can use lukewarm water to wash off the colours. You can use a mixture of sea salt, glycerin and a few drops of aroma oil. This anti-bacterial mixture will protect your skin from the toxic colours.

– While removing colors, don’t rub your skin too much, this can actually damage your skin. Instead, use an oil to remove the colors gently.

Post Holi Haircare:

– After playing Holi, the first thing you can do is wash off the colours with just plain water. This way most of the colour will come off.

– Once you have rinsed your hair, go for a mild shampoo and conditioner to clean your hair properly.

– To give your hair its moisture back, you can go for a nice hair mask. Mix two tablespoons of olive oil with four tablespoons of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. Leave this mask on your hair for 20-30 minutes and rinse it off with a mild shampoo.
